St. Aloysius School participates in several standardized assessments aligned with our course of study. All Schools in the Toledo Diocese administer the Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (A.C.R.E) test in grades 5 and 8. This test is published by the National Catholic Education Association and is given in the fall of the school year. We are very pleased with our 2010 results. St. Aloysius scored 5-10% above the national average in every single category.
Toledo Diocesan Catholic Schools use the Scantron Performance Series as one part of the complete review of a child’s ability. Performance Series tests match each student’s ability level in the areas of Math, Reading, Language Arts, and Science. All tests begin in relation to a student’s grade level and are taken online. Grades 3, 5 and 7 participated in the fall and will be tested again in the spring to allow us to track their progress. With almost every student scoring above average or high average on each test we’re very proud of what they’ve achieved so far.
All schools administer the Diocese of Toledo Writing Competency test in grades 3, 5, 7. The writing tests are given in the spring of the school year. They are developed and scored by a committee of teachers along with personnel from CYSS. Our 2010 results are very favorable. We were above the diocesan average at every grade level. Writing across the curriculum continues to be a focus for us.
Here at St. Aloysius we administer the InView Cognitive Test in October to select grade levels. These results help to indicate student progress and promote learning by helping us to meet the unique needs of each individual child.
